Heck.. I don't even know what I should get for Mrs Mayat. But then, we are planning on a trip to a seaside resort pretty soon. Other than that, I'm not sure what I need to get her. Any help girls???

So for my mum, ermm... errr......... I also don't know la.. die die die.

Surprise early Christmas present

Yesterday as I was going through the stuff in my parent's TV cabinet, I noticed that one of the wrist watch that father owns is very familiar. I know I've seen it somewhere before until I realize that it's a damn SEIKO 5!!!

Ha ha ha....

Mrs quickly went to my father and told him I've been rumaging through his personal belongings. When father came, he told me to take it. WOW WEEE~!!!

Aah, after several years of wear, the watch is still in good condition but scratches are evident.

However, it looks really nice...

And it's heavy metal too!

And no, it's not Petaling Street RM20 version..

Blur Photos: 4 Easy Solutions

A major problem of photographers is that they shoot blurry photos. The main reason why the photos are blurry is because the shutter speed is too low. For Loctor, anything slower than 1/30 seconds is considered slow.

Hence, a tripod is necessary to prevent camera shakes. But sometimes, in some situations, carrying a tripod is not easy and some places just don't permit you to lug around a 2kg Manfrotto or even a 500grams Sakure tripod.

Don't worry, let's analyze a few techniques which will help you:

#1: The Upskirt Technique

No tripod and afraid of camera shake? What the heck, just lie on the ground! The center of gravity of your body is literally touching the ground hence you have all the stability you need. Also known as the pintai-lou technique. Girls wearing skirt should be aware of photographers using this technique.

#2: The Stomach Support

For those lucky enough to have a belly. Place your elbows on the belly and you can achieve tremendous improvements in camera stability. This technique however, does not apply to thin and fit people like Stupe. (Woa ha ha ha)

#3: The Pentapod

Tripods have three legs to support your camera. So, more legs will have more support. Unfortunately, nobody in the world manufactures any camera support that has more than 3 legs. Don't worry, if you can't find it, make one yourself! There is no better extra support than your own legs.

How do you achieve the Pentapod technique? Place your camera on the tripod, then hold the camera firmly with your hands and then spread your legs as wide as possible. Easy as 1 2 3!

#4: The Sky Cam

If you have a tripod, it is extremely hard to shoot photos that has the point of view as if you're looking down from the sky (hence, the term 'Sky Cam'). So fret not, find any nearby tree, climb it, and shoot. Make sure you find strong branches to lean on.

So that's it! 4 easy to learn techniques for you photographers suffering from slow shutter speed issues.

Yesterday, the one who lost his brains, Zybisko14 finally came over to Penang to meet up with me and also to collect his D50 ;)

After showing him the basics on how to handle the camera, we got off straight to Penang to get a tripod. However...

The Malaysian Online Camera Shop

When I was thinking of where to get my new camera body, I was juggling between the usual camera shop that I always go to in Penang OR buying via online.

The prices for both is just a mere RM50 difference but if you want to say cheap, also cannot lah. Both about the same. Anyhow, I made up my mind to order my camera directly from Shashinki website, the Malaysian Online Camera Shop:

The website was launched 1 year ago by a Malaysian who currently resides in Japan. Hence, some of the stuff sold in Shashinki are actually sourced from Japan... like my camera ;)

The company is a Malaysian registered company based in Ayer Tawar, Perak. From this office, the stuff that you ordered will be sent via Poslaju.

If you go through the website, there are lots of camera-related stuff on sale. A plus side is that you can check out the prices in a few currencies. You need to register yourself at Shashinki (and it's free) before you can make your order.

Payment wise is very flexible. You can either write a cheque, perform cash deposit, Maybank2U (or other online banking site) or pay with your credit card via PayPal service.

Now... If you would like to pay via PayPal. Please bear in mind that you will be paying in USD ONLY. The best method IMHO is to pay via direct deposit or online banking. These times, I wish I have a Tigerbank account so I can use that Maybank2U. It's just not very safe to carry ~RM2k++ of cash for cash deposit. Heh heh heh...

Now, what can I say about customer service? One word --> EXCELLENT!

The site owner replies all your enquiries very fast and he's very helpful too. Sometimes, you might get some free gifts from him too! :D Woa ha ha ha... I got a free Matin neck strap together with the camera. Stim nyerr..

So after making your payment. You will get confirmation email from Shashinki and also the status of the shipment. If no stock they will let you know when the stock will arrive and when are you going to receive it. You have yourself to blame for not checking your email :D For things that are in stock, usually you will get it the next day via Poslaju. If not, it's usually within a week or so. Very good man!

As a comparison, last year I made an online order from the "brand of bags that I like" store. After my payment has been confirmed, there is no news at all for 2 freaking weeks. Not even an email or a phone call. Tiu!! So after emailing them, only I found out that they have no stock! Man I was furious! Immediately I cancelled my order and would never buy from their online store again.

So back to Shashinki...

When you receive your goods via PosLaju, you will have peace of mind because these guys really take the effort to wrap your stuff carefully. My camera box is within a bigger box which is filled with styrofoam, plastic bubbles, pop-pop wrappers (ha ha ha... don't know what to call them). Your box won't be damaged man!

Aah... bear in mind that if you buy a camera from Japan, you will get everything in Japanese language. Ha ha ha... No worries, the English version of the user manual is just a download away.

I admit that some of the prices in the website are quite expensive as compared to the shops. Well, bear in mind that if you buy from Shashinki, you do everything from the comfort of your own home right in front of the PC. With the exception that you may need to go to the bank to deposit the $$$. So, don't be so kiamsiap laa.. okay?

Today, is the 2nd year Loctor and Mrs Mayat registered our marriage.
Yeah.. time really flies by. In a blink, 2 years liao. Heh heh heh..

Well I didn't plan anything special for today as I told Mrs Mayat that we shouldn't be spending too much on these stuff. Nevertheless, Mrs had something in mind and I just let her be.

When I got home... something bad happened. (Will tell later).

So when I opened the fridge, I saw a box from the local bakery. Ah ha.... ! After dinner and sorts, I took out the cake and saw..

Wah~! So nice la the cake... chocolate chips heart-shaped sponge cake. Mrs Mayat is as sweet as ever. Loctor really lup her so much.

So... what was the bad thing?

Erm... I was quite late from work today as I needed to work on something. And silly me, I was too busy until I had no time to sms her and told her I'll be late.

Unknowingly, Mrs was waiting at the lobby of our condo around the usual time I would be back. And since I was ~30 minutes late, she was quite furious. Alamak..

Many weeks ago... a stray mummy doggy was pregnant and about to give birth. She searched around the housing estate but couldn't find a place to give birth to her puppies. In the end, the poor pregnant mummy finally found a spot near a house. She lay down on the sand and one-by-one, the puppies were born.

Unfortunately, there were complications during the birth and the poor mummy took her last breath after the 7th puppy was born into this world. *sobs*

With no mother to nurture the young borns, the poor little puppies started to die one by one. By the time the people from the house saw them, 3 have already died while still in their dead mother's embrace. The other four were barely alive. Quickly, the kind-hearted people took the four puppies and drove them to the shelter in Bukit Mertajam.

Loctor's parents are regular volunteers at this shelter and saw these poor four motherless puppies fighting for their lives. As there are hundreds of other dogs and cats at the shelter, the caretaker is unable to spend extra time to take care of them. Hence, Papamayat and Mamamayat carted the four puppies into a box and brought them home. At least, they will be well taken care of by Robert H. Johnson.

Alas.. as one of the four was already too weak, it died in Robert H. Johnson's care. *Sigh* Poor little pup was burried in the garden as its soul went up to heaven to meet up with Brownie the Idiot.

The remaining three pups strived on and finally grew stronger and fatter. When I was there yesterday, they seem to be in better health now. Ahh... good good.

So, enough talking... let me introduce the 3 'survivors':

'Boss' - Because he always wants to be the first to eat, and is a busybody.
'Wanderer' - Once out from the enclosure and into the garden, he will venture out by himself and pang sai everywhere.
'Ah Girl' - The only sister

With no momma to feed them, Loctor's parents went to buy a tin of Lactogen baby milk formula just for them. Wah.. damn lucky puppies.

The toilet break..

Yesterday while on the way towards parent's home, Mrs Mayat suddenly need to go to the toilet. Luckilly for her, we were about to reach the St Anne's church at Jalan Kulim. The place is open for the public almost everyday so I guess it's no harm if we 'borrow' their toilet facilities just for a while.

I can't believe my eyes when I see their new building..

So after I parked my car near the administration building, I did a few snapshots of the new building before going to the toilet..

Finally, my new camera body & high speed memory card arrived safely from ShaShinKi. Took about 50 test shots and finally got chance to try out that wireless flash commander thingy.

Everything is working properly and good.

There are more features as compared to my D50 but I guess the learning curve is not very steep. Probably after 1 week I'll be all used to the new features liao.

Tomorrow --> more puppies :D

So last week I was chatting with The Webster and suddenly thought of wanting to shoot some Penang bridge photos, from the underside. After seeing his bridge photos before I've always wondered how can I get there and shoot the same pics too.

After going to the market and dropping off Mrs Mayat, I rushed back home, threw everything into the fridge, grabbed my gear and head to the island. Being not so Malaysian, I arrived at 9:00am sharp. Ha ha ha... Webster wasn't there yet so I began shooting myself first. After 10 minutes or so, he arrived.. and the shooting begins.

LoctorMayat's guide to bird photography on a budget....

After you get into serious photography, one of the subjects that you may get addicted to is none other than shooting birds, or 'birding' as it is more commonly known. For the normal beginners, a trip to the local bird park in town is more than enough to produce stunning bird photos.

However, for those who are really serious into birding, nothing beats going into the thick jungle, tracking through the GPS navigation system and finally arrived at the nesting place of some rare birds on top of the trees.

Of course, you need expensive gears like the one shown below:

This path of birding is not for the faint of heart. A Nikkor 300mm F/2.8 VR alone costs about half of a Kancil 850EX's price. Hence, many are disappointed because of the costs involved.

HOWEVER...

There is always a solution for every problem! :D

Nowadays, almost everybody owns a mobile phone with built-in camera features. You will be surprised that your camera phone, will be one of the best tools for birding.

So what you need to go... is to secure your camera phone to the trusty tripod first. Since no camera phone is built with a tripod screw mount, you have to improvise by tying it to the tripod head with any means necessary. In my case, I use a strong string as shown below:

Make sure you tie several knots to ensure that whenever you tilt your tripod head, your camera phone won't fall off the tripod:

With that done, you select and enable the camera function on your phone.

Now, you're ready to begin your first ever birding!!

There are many birds out there which like to perch on the ledge of your home windows. With the windows closed, the birds won't know you're watching it closely especially the glass is tinted.

With that, take your setup and position it as close to the window as possible. Then, aim the camera phone at the bird you want to shoot.

Set the self-timer of your camera phone to avoid camera shake and voila! Your first ever birding photo!!

The best part of this low-budget birding technique is that you can shoot the same bird over and over again and it will still be there.

Sometimes, if you're lucky like me, you can even shoot a Big Bird!

Now, go out and enjoy your bird photography!!!

New replacement car seats....

One thing I really dislike about non-continental cars are their seats. If you travel on long journey on a Honda, Toyota, Perodua or Potong, you body will feel damn stiff as the seats aren't really that well designed for ergonomic and comfortable driving.

Sigh...

Recently... my good friend Chow Ah Beng from the car accessories shop called me and said that someone is letting go of his set of Recaro car seats at a very much discounted price. After thinking for a while... I decided to get my Kereta Mayat's seats changed. Aih... one time heart pain first lah... the price paid is worth it since I also like to drive to KL every now and then.

Recaro seats are so good that even though you are stuck in a traffic jam, you will still be smiling. It's the OSIM equivalent of car seats I'd say...

When I reached Ah Beng's shop and saw the seats, I was a little disappointed because it was in pink. Sigh... ex owner must be Geekchic.

Anyhow, I took it and Ah Beng got it installed in my car in just a little over 30 minutes.

Aaah... damn comfortable, I was smiling all the way back to my home.

Verdict:
Get one if you can afford it, if not, wait for 2nd hand ones. You won't regret it.

Today me and Mrs Mayat went over to Penang because I need to change my faulty SD card from Albert Fotokrazy. After that, Mrs Mayat wanted to go meet her ex-housemate from UTM who is now working and staying in Penang island.

Her friend is staying at none other N-Park :D

Wow.... I can see that... the condo is really packed! Resident densitiy must be damn high. Nevetheless, I can't help but notice that they do have a very nice park.

Mrs Mayat's friend finally came down and she took us up the condo and showed us the view.

This is my very first time to experience a view of the southern tip of the island from way up.

Looking down.... the condo sure has very nice swimming pool facilities! Even bigger than my condo's one..

Damn shiok..

However, the insides are a little small but for Penang standard, this ~RM200k condo is quite worth it liao la... unless you're rich enough to buy million ringgit prices houses on the island. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathroom and washing yard... aiyah... okay liao lah.

But for me, the ultra high density scares me but if you're a non-Penang guy/girl working at Bayan Lepas, this place is very good liao. Rental for an unfurnished unit starts from RM650 per month.

Aah... what a week! Time flies by so fast this week. True enough, when you have lots of things to do at work and at home, you'll be wishing that there are more than 7 days in a week.

Mrs Mayat was down with severe illness for the past few days. She was suffering with fever, headache and a bad cough. Her fever went up to 106F (~41 Celsius) and had to take a day off from work. Today, the fever is gone but she is still suffering from very bad cough.

Her throat is feeling itchy all over with sticky phlegm. Sigh... how I wish I'm the one who's coughing and not her. It pains my heart to see her waking up in the middle of the night and cough non-stop. *sobs*

So weekend is coming... I plan to go to Penang this Sunday to meet up with Maniac from Fotokrazy then maybe go do some photo shooting after that.

Manfrotto, from Italy, is well-known for it's quality, strength and durability by professional photographers and not-so-professional photographers (also known as wannabes) all around the world. They're heavy, sturdy and will last a lifetime if you take care of it properly.

So the 190PROB legs and 804RC2 pan and tilt head I got came with the specification that it could withstand a total weight of 4KGs.

To test this out, I took out my professional camera complete with lanyard and fixed it on the Manfrotto:

As can be seen, what was claimed in the specifications was true after all. The camera didn't shake or rattle even with some strong winds blowing from the windows.

One thing that scares me is when you adjust the position of the camera to portrait orientation. For el-cheapo tripods, the tripod head may not be able to support the weight of the camera & flash and will break. I'm sure you wouldn't want to be crying your heart out after realizing the consequences of using a RM50 tripod to support a RM3k++ camera.

So I adjusted the 804RC2 head to portrait orientation and locked the screw.

Wow! As can be seen from the photo above, the Manfrotto handled it with ease. The camera was held in place firmly and securely.

One big problem of el-cheapo tripods is that they aren't really helpful when you want to shoot macro photos. Usually, they're about 1-2 feet tall even with the legs all retracted. This makes focusing real close to ground level a problem for those who doesn't have a long macro lens.

The Manfrotto solves this with ease by allowing you to remove the center 'spine' and fix it horizontally. I tried it on my heavy professional camera and now I can shoot macro photos at a level closer to the ground. Worms, cockroaches and grasshoppers, HERE I COME!

So in conclusion, do I recommend the Manfrotto 190PROB & 804RC2 tripod/head?

I was chatting with the buddies over at Photomalaysia as well as geekchic when the subject of Chinese style weddings came into discussion. Well, seems like nowadays, weddings to a typical Chinese couple... has become a burden more than a joyous occasion.

Let's look at a case study...

So after John and Mary pak tor-ed for several weeks, they decided it's best for them to get married and have a family of their own. So, John decided to take Mary's family out for dinner at an expensive restaurant.

Over the meal, John gathers up the courage to pop the question to Mary's parents.

"Aunty.. Uncle.... Mary and I have... err..... umm.... decided.... errr.... to get.... umm........ married"

Mary's parents smiled and said nothing. John continued,

"So Aunty.. Uncle... if you don't mind... can you let me know your requirements in order to bless our wedding?"

Mary's mother answered slowly,"Well John, you're not too bad actually. Stable job, good personality, responsible and loving to my daughter. We won't ask for too much from you laa..."

John was overjoyed,"Ha ha... that's good to hear. So...... how much you need leh?"

Mary's mother thought for a while, looked at her husband and both nodded their heads. Mary's father opened his mouth and said,"John, make it RM25,000 laa......"

John's pants exploded and he fainted in the restaurant.

As you can see from the case study above, nowadays, to get married, you first have to buy a wife first.

I know there are many parents out there who thinks that the daughter farming business is one of the best industry ever to be involved in. I know someone close to me had to pay RM30,000 for dowry. If you don't pay, no marriage consent.

Okay.. to be fair, some parents only ask for a few thousand, or just requested for a couple of tables for their relatives for the wedding dinner. That one I don't mind. However, those who asked for ridiculous amount of dowry should really get their head examined.

No wonder nowadays there are so many Ah Loong services around. Heck, even food catering services also can be settled with 0% installments. Many couples begin their married life owing the bank/Ah Loong money. Worth it meh?

Lavish wedding dinners is also another thing I don't really understand. Heck, I'll leave that for another discussion.

Wah lau.... RM30k .... *shake head in disbelief*

So what about me and Mrs Mayat?

Hehehehe.... I'm very proud to say that Mrs Mayat's parents didn't really ask anything ridiculous from me. I'm so happy for that. For now, I will be planning for our wedding ceremony peacefully. Hopefully and by God's grace, we will hold it next year :D

This morning, after dropping off Mrs Mayat to work. I made a quick hop over to Penang island to my regular photography shop to do some window shopping for a new tripod.

First the shopkeeper showed me a brand from China called 'Victory'. Wah... the legs are stiff... springs hard to press... and the ballhead is just damn small. It's extremely cheap but I'm afraid that it won't last me for 1 year. The model is Victory 3001B. Nah... I'll pass.

So the shopkeeper brought out an Italian tripod by the name of 'Manfrotto'. For those who are well-versed in photography this brand is not new. They made very reliable tripods.

The first impression I get is very good. Built quality is very high. The springs, clamps and 3-way pan & tilt head are very solid. After a few more minutes of trying, I can say that I'm overly amazed and bought over by it. Weighing at more than 1.5kg with head attached, this tripod ain't gonna rattle and shake like the previous one.

I tried putting on my camera on the tripod and took some very slow shutter speed shots (e.g. 1/4 sec) and the pics come out great! Even asked the shopkeeper to lend me the Sigma 135-400mm super zoom lens for testing and it's wonderful!

Finally, I bought it and bring it back home with a big smile :D

Return of the Stim Man (Part 2)

So yesterday morning I got up at 6am and headed for the buffet breakfast downstairs.
Aiyoh... I don't know what to say man. The staff really needs to polish up their PR and language...

Pepper also don't know.... *slap forehead*

After that I head back to my room, pangsai-ed and packed my stuff for checking out. All in all, the whole stay costs me RM140++. Cheap, yes. Worth it? No.

Anyhow, I was given this nice gift of Hari Raya cookies by the hotel reception.

Like this okay laa....

So I got into my car, and headed towards the Federal Highway and it was a straight long road until I reached Klang. After some waiting Mrs finally arrived and it was a straight long road back to Damansara and we went to Ikano Power Center :D

okay.. actually we only went to IKEA :P Wanna get that glass cabinet for a long time liao and this trip is a damn good excuse for me to do so. We also picked up a pair of downlights (1 which was used for the cabinet), an 8R photo frame and an Italian Non-stick cooking pan with glass lid. Woot~! :D

After shopping, we began our journey back home. After a couple of hours, Mrs Mayat wanted to stop by Ipoh to taste that famous hor fun. Around 3:30pm++, we finally reached Ipoh town.

Firstly, we went over to try the bean curd at this shop:

Aiyoh....... it was heavenly!!!!!! So nice~!!!!

After swallowing down the bowl of beancurd, we crossed the street and bought some 'Hiong Peng' (Fragrant Biscuit.. LOL~!)

So, after we're done shopping we walked over to the famous Onn Kee (Tauge Ayam) shop. Hahaha...

Ordered two bowls of hor fun, half chicken and 1 plate of tauge.

Okay.. I have a confession to make here:

The food is really nothing to shout about
It's a bit expensive (RM17 for all)
Waiter/Waitress/Cook is damn rude (Cantonese mah)
Took too long to cook our order
Floor damn oily
Wall fan collapsed and almost hurt a guy

I'm sorry, but I think the hor fun here is what the Lorong Selamat Char Koay Teow is to Penang people. Honest comments. Lot's can be improved here so don't sue me please.

SO....

After our brief stop-over at Ipoh, we headed back to the highway for the final 2 hour journey home.

Carrying the glass cabinet out from the car to our condo is really a feat for fit and strong people like stupe. Damn heavy lah wei.....

I took 1 hour to fix it up.

The downlights are damn nice too....

So after some screwing... (heh heh...)

The return of the Stim Man (Part 1)

KL.. as usual... is always good to mee. Each trip to KL sure will leave me with memories that I'll remember for life.

So, I left Rumah Mayat at 6am sharp on Wednesday. I was still rather sleepy as I didn't sleep well the night before. Something about long distance travel always cause me ~~erectile dysfunction~~ the-night-before insomaniac problems.

So I reached Bandar Utama precisely at 10am. Woot! Woot! After that I rushed to the toilet at Centrepoint as fast as I could to pang sai. Foooh~! Stim sekali.

Not long after that my friends from Photomalaysia started arriving and we all adjourned all the way to Klang to have their famous Bak Kut Teh. We came back to BU after that so that one of them could help me to get to my lodging for the night... Hotel Armada :D

I refreshened up, changed and took the train to KLCC :D

Then.. I came back immediately as Crumpler store was not open. Damn it...

So I took my rest and luckilly managed to catch some sleep. During the evening, I met up with all those real nice guys from Photomalaysia at some cafe nearby...

Okay the company was great... as for the food and drinks........

really really....

*UAAKKKK*... the Teh O Ais Limau.... *UAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKK***

Around 11pm, I bid my farewell to the guys and walked back to my hotel as I need to wake up early to pick up Mrs Mayat from Klang bus station. As I closed the lights in the room, I realized that one of the wall lamps can't be turned off.

So I followed the power cord and found out....

WAH LAU!! Ha ha ha ha..... 4 star hotel woh~!!!

Nevertheless, the room was too cold anyway (because the air cond temperature dial has no effect at all) so I took out the key card in order to cut off everything in the room. Aaah.... slept soundly after that.

A bunch of nice guys will be meeting up with me and take me for lunch (probably in Klang).

Then I'll check in to the hotel... and if I still have time and energy... a visit to the Crumpler store :D

In the evening from 7pm onwards, I will be at somewhere near Hilton for a TT with the guys and gals over at Photomalaysia forum.

After several years of service....

My not-so-trusty tripod finally gave way and broke its spinal cord...

Now I don't even dare to mount a compact camera on it... as it's spinal cord will slide down anytime.. bringing camera, tripod and my heart to the ground..

Sigh...

Well... as the saying goes..

"Old one don't spoil, new one don't come"

Now gotta make a few calls and check out that Manfrotto... :P

Sigma vs Nikkor lenses

Finally, after much delayed and procrastinating, I managed to complete this project to compare the performance for the two of the lenses that I owned:

Let's look at the photos:

Looks like the Sigma captured a warmer photo as compared to the Nikkor.

Next, Ultraman test:

Yup... the Sigma can capture a richer red color tone too..

Next, sharpness test:

This one... both also no fight. Sharpness for both lenses looks the same to me.

Conclusion:

Both lenses perform well.
No point comparing lenses.
Both have their pros and cons.

Instead of worrying which lens better... I'd rather spend my time designing more T-shirts :D

After the disastrous event which involved the sad demise of environmentalist Steve Irwin, another case happened in Malaysia just recently.

An Ikan Kembung was waiting to be slaughtered and seasoned with tepung kunyit and salt suddenly came alive and started attacking. The unfortunate victim was Urutoraman Cosmos whose head got caught in the jaws of the Ikan Kembung.

Many tried to free him but unfortunately the Ikan Kembung was too strong. Eventually everybody fled the scene for their own safety.

Few minutes later, police and rescue personnel from 911 arrived on the scene and saw the badly injured and severely mangled body of Urutoraman Cosmos. The Ikan Kembung was no where to be found.

Experts from Las Vegas was called in to help in investigations.

The replacement for "Error 404"

So I was happily surfing the net and scratching my balls when Maniac from Fotokrazy.com messaged me asking me for help.

So apparently he wants to replace the boring "Error 404" page you see everyday...

So I thought for a while...

The theme is 'not found'...

How do I cam-whore to fit the theme?

Hmmm.......

Few stimming seconds later a spark of idea came and I quickly took out my gear from the drybox, did a few shots, adjusted exposure a little, and did more test shots until I was satisfied.

Then.. I uploaded the photos to my Mac and began photoshopping. After fully satisfied with the end result... I uploaded the photo to the net and showed Maniac.

Woa ha ha ha ah ha ha ha ha ha~!

Maniac liked the photo and it's now the official Error 404 page for Fotokrazy. You can view it here.

The whole thing took less than 20 minutes and Mrs Mayat said that I'm crazy.
Well... because I am.

Finally, after more than 1 year of Digital SLR photography, I've manage to (and can finally afford to) get myself a nice Drybox for my photography gears.

Presenting... the 30 Litre Drybox. :D

Once plugged in, the drybox will keep humidity within at 40-50% (some humidity measurement unit). This is very important for your camera especially the lenses because in dark and high humidity places, fungus can easily grow. And when fungus grows on your lens, your picture degrades, and you need to send it for cleaning, which costs money.

Meanwhile......

Lugging my backpack getting ready to go to work, I head towards to front door after making sure all switches are off and pipes are closed. I locked the door and shut it closed. Yeah, my door is those older types where you need to lock it from inside first and slam it shut.

I reached into my left pocket looking for the keys to open the grill lock when I felt a deep sense of panic rushed into me. Damn.... I forgot to bring out my house keys.

There was I.... standing at the front yard of my condo, in betwen the front door and the locked grill, TRAPPED.

My first thought is to call Mrs Mayat for help since she always bring a pair of the keys to work. Reaching towards my Crumpler Thirsty AL (M) pouch hanging on my belt, I felt another deep sense of panic as realized that I also forgot to bring out my handphone from inside the house.

Mrs Mayat won't be back till evening..........

And....

worst of all.....

I felt a tingling sensation in my tummy.... signs of Pang Sai.

The only saving grace for me is the small little pot of money plant on top of the shoe rack. Should I just pang my sai directly into the pot as fetilizer for the money plant? Maybe it will grow some US Dollars for me?

An ear ripping fart suddenly escaped from my bung hole... my legs grew weak and I could felt a wet patch on my pants. Did I just splattered........... on my pants?

Then I could hear another gurgle inside my stomach as it prepares itself for another round of fart.......

I was shaking in fear and embarassment, and closed my eyes tightly to brace myself until..........

BEEP BEEP BEEP..... BEEP BEEP BEEP............BEEP BEEP BEEP

My alarm clock sounded and I woke up.

The sunset forms the dramatic background for the high-rise crane that is busy with the construction of a condo block just right in front of mine.

I sure hope that with the completion of this condo, I still have a decent view of Penang island and the beautiful sunset everyday.

LoctorMayat is not an Ultraman fan. In fact, LoctorMayat is more of a Kamen Rider fan. So why Ultraman? Because it's easier for you readers to identify laa... Ask everyone who is Ultraman, they all know. Ask the same about Kamen Rider, most will go ermm.... uhhh.... errr...... Aiyoh, still don't know ah? Kamen Rider = Kesatria Baja Hitam laa!! Which translates to 'Black Fertilizer Knight'

Okay okay... some of you may have already known the origin of Loctor Mayat so this is for those new readers :P

p/s: if you still don't know who that guy is, he is Dr Al Robbins from CSI : Las Vegas

Loctor Mayat is not a reporter nor professional photographer. Loctor Mayat is a newspaper seller by early morning, Engineer by day & Char Koay Teow peddler by night. He also happens to like Photography as a hobby.

Loctor Mayat is a strong Apple Computers supporter, but does not understand why people need an iPod.

While in college, Loctor Mayat was given a nickname 'Camelrilyn' by his room mate. This is because Loctor drinks a lot of water, macam camel. At the same time, he listens to Marilyn Manson's music. Hence, Camelrilyn.

While in high school, Loctor Mayat did a very wrong thing. His cousin who was still studying in primary school was doing some Mandarin subject homework and he had to '造句' (make sentence) with the word '藏' (hide).

So, what happened was Loctor Mayat asked his cousin to write: "我把姐姐的内裤藏在床底“ which means "I hide sister's panties under the bed".

WOA HA HA HA HA....!!!

In the end, his teacher was shocked and called his father to school. Eventually Loctor's parents was told about it and Loctor had to go to his uncle to apologize. But then... DAMN FUNNY LA WEI!!!

Hahahahhaha...

Mrs Mayat is banned from the kitchen every evening because that's the time LoctorMayat cooks dinner. Actually, Loctor's dream when he was young is to become a famous chef in some restaurant in Switzerland. Oh well......

It seems like... the haze problem we Malaysians face recently has become a yearly event. Last year the haze was so bad schools were closed and the government has to declare an emergency, asking we poor Malaysians to stay indoors and drink lots of water. Really kanasai....

So what has our neighbour done so far? Cipet... nothing. Just a,"Oops! Sorry ah! We also cannot control it la..". Tiu~!

Last night before I slept it was extremely windy.. I thought that finally the haze can be blown away to another place (e.g. KL) but unfortunately, I looked out the windows this morning and saw...

No difference laa!!! Can't even see the BORR bridge properly.

And looking towards the west, Penang island has become King Kong's island... hidden away behind the thick curtain of haze...

So what to do? We are advised to stay indoors...

But then... the haze is affecting our health to a certain degree, which might cause some illness...

Just now... after Mrs Mayat was done with her shower, she slipped while stepping out from the shower area and cut her right foot against the sharp edges of the tiles...

Poor her... she cried out in pain loudly. At that time, I was having my shower too and I quickly ran over to her and saw her bleeding wound. Aiyoh.. that time my heart really sank. Mrs cried non-stop due to the immense pain and all I can do is to console her.

After helping her to to sofa... I slowly applied Bruno antiseptic cream on the wounds....

On August 26th, 2006, a few days right after my Gunung Jerai company teambuilding trip, I noticed that my external flash Nikon SB-600 started to behave abnormally. There seems to be some problem turning it on and IF it does, it will automatically shuts down by itself for no reason.

So I called up the shop where I got the SB-600 from, and he told me that I need to admit my SB-600 to Nikon Hospital immediately.

So I sent it over to Penang at August 29th, with the hope that it will get fixed within that week itself as I need to shoot Mrs Mayat's graduation ceremony. Unfortunately, the shopkeeper told me that Nikon Penang does not have any technicians to repair my SB-600 hence it needs to be transferred to Nikon KL. WAAAAHHHH... *CRY LOUDLY*

As I keep waiting and waiting... I had to create some not-so-nice pics for my company's event including a lab opening ceremony as well as the recent Damai Laut trip. WAAAAAAHHHHH..... *CRY LOUDLY AGAIN*

So I continued waiting.... and waited...

and waited...

and waited some more...

and waited again...

and again...

and...

Last Thursday, the shopkeeper called me and told me that my SB-600 has been fixed in KL and will be sent over to Penang on Friday. Yipeee~!!! Yesterday, the shopkeeper called again and told me,"Loctor Mayat, you can come and collect your flash now"

WOOOOT~!!

So this morning around 10am I headed to Penang island excitedly but unfortunately I took the bridge and got stuck in some major traffic jam because some big ass lorry was stucked in the middle due to burst tyres. Tiu nia seng!! What a waste of time moving inch by inch....

Around 11am I reached KOMTAR and finally saw my poor SB-600 again!! It has been exactly one month since it was sent to Nikon. With much eagerness, I inserted the batteries and powered it up...

YAHOOOO~~~!!!!

Did a few test shots...

Alrighty!!! Everything is working a-okay!

So, what did I learn from this experience?

1) Camera bags are invented for a reason.
2) When not in use, remove batteries
3) Nikon Penang does not have a technician
4) Nikon KL probably does not even have spare parts

Woa ha ha ha....

Later, I'll be bringing my healed SB-600 with me to my parent's house and shoot 'em 10 puppies using it. WOOOT~!

I arrived at Damai Laut around 1pm++ after having a damn nice seafood lunch with my buddy Coolznick at Manjung. A bunch of people already arrived and waiting to get their room keys.

I took a few shots from the lobby,

then.. we all adjourned to get some refreshments and rested for a while after the 2 hours++ journey from Penang. I was already sweating...

After settling down in my room and rested for a while, it's time to head to the beach!

Very nice leh~!!! This is the first time I'm stepping on private-owned beach

As can be seen from the pics, no people one! Ha ha ha.. the urge to *take off pants* and run across the sand is so tempting.

So after another round of major sweating at the beach, I went to the pool for a nice dip. Fooh yoh... the pool is damn nice I tell you.

After getting my skin all wrinkled up, it's almost time for dinner. The sun was beginning to set too.

I quickly went back to my room to get my camera and managed to 'capture' the beautiful sunset.

Ha ha ha.... really quite nice.

So we all headed down to the 'Garden Terrace' and had a nice buffet dinner.

Overall, it was a satisfying trip for me but I wish Mrs Mayat was there with me. Well, who says I won't be going there again right? ;)

Oh my..... I never knew that it was so tiring to go canoeing with Laikos two days straight.

It was damn fun but very very tiring...

166 pics were taken... still haven't processed them yet.

Till then.. let me recuperate my sore muscles first. Now I can't even pee properly..

On a side note, checked my gmail just now and saw that several people has asked me how they can adopt Ah Brown's six puppies. Well... to be serious, I don't know.

Taking Ah Brown's puppies away from her is sort of.... cruel.. u know? But then, I don't really have a say in this matter because they're not my dogs. Ah Brown doesn't really have an owner so they're 100% strays.

To the girl who emailed me yesterday, no you can't "Come over and take a look first before deciding whether to adopt them or not".

Jeeez.... I'm not a pet shop owner for goodness sake. Some people ah... *shake head*

Damai Laut.... here I come!

In 45 minutes time, Loctor will be heading over to Damai Laut resort for the company teambuilding.

Yeah... I know I mentioned before that I'll be bringing Mrs Mayat there one day but then, this will give me a good chance to check out whether it's really worth it to spend RM599++ for both me and Mrs Mayat on our private escapade there.

But since we can only check in the resort at 3pm, I will be heading directly to Sitiawan first for lunch with my good friend, Mr "Still-available" Coolznick

Everything's in order and I'm ready to go. Oh, today is also Mrs Mayat's first day at work for her temporary job. Just wish her all the best ! :D

Damn... just realized that I will be missing the grand finale of One in a Million. Uggh.. nevermind.. can watch online later.

Oh man... suddenly I'm having the want-to-pangsai feeling again......

Zoo Implements Visitor Screening Policy After Incident

Kuala Lumpur - Officials from Zoo Negara has implemented a visitor screening policy at its front gates effective immediately after two primates died in their enclosure. The policy will cause minor delays at the front gates and ticket counter but zoo keepers mentioned that this will not disrupt operations at the zoo.

"After considering all the possibilities, we decided that this is the best way to keep visitor attracted to the zoo and to ensure that the safety of the animals are taken care of. We do not wish to see a similiar incident in the future.", according to zoo spokesman Mr Uruto Rahman.

In last Friday's incident, a visitor who was walking slowly towards the monkey's enclosure was causing the animals around her to grow uneasy. Some of the lions and tigers grew aggressive and zoo keepers had to close off the section to avoid more visitors from further agitating the beasts.

As the visitor reached the monkey cages, two primates who first saw her went into a shock and subsequently experienced a heart attack. One of them died on the spot while another one died while on the way to the vet. The visitor was then asked to leave by zoo officials.

"We hope that visitors will understand the policy as it is our duty to keep the animals safe and protected at all times. Some of the animals are close to extinction and we do not wish to lose them while under our care", Uruto Rahman continued.

It's Saturday... means... it's Visit-loctormayat's-parents day. It was the usual activity today... lazing around.. updating my parents about my life and work...

Then I went out to the garden to snap a few shots of my father's precious orchids..

Bah.... very boring... even my champion mate Robert H. Johnson doesn't really care much about my visit today..

So I went to the backlanes to visit Ah Brown... damn long since I last saw her. To my surprise...

Ah Brown's boobies grew huge!! That could only mean one thing...

I looked around.. and saw something new...

And looking nearer... I was so shocked upon discovering.....

Eeeeeeeeeeekkk~~!!!! SO CUTE~~!!!

Apparently, without me knowing, Ah Brown has become a mommy! Ha ha ha... to a pack of 6 puppies!

FOoooyoh!!! DAMN CUTE!! Father has been busy building that 'animal shelter' behind the unoccupied house next door. Woa ha ha ha... wah lau.. tak boleh tahan laa...

From my initial observation... there are 5 girls and 1 dude..

woa ha ha... some of the pups was as shocked as me and pee-ed in their fur-pants.. ha ha ha. Sorry mate... didn't meant to scare you with my camera :P

What's the next thing now? Giving names to each of them of course.... wah lau.. WOA HA HA HA HA... tak boleh tahan laa... SO CUTE!

Walls Moo Soft Cookies Ice Cream Sandwich

Last night was grocery shopping night with Mrs Mayat. I wanted to try the new ice cream thingy in town which happens to be the Walls Moo Soft Cookie Sandwich (contains calcium) so when I saw it, I grabbed it :D

It's a little pricey though... RM7.95 (Carrefour) for a packet which contains 10 of these Moo Sandwich.

Each packet is quite small in size. No larger than your average-sized palm.

Opening it, you can see the thick layer of ice-cream in between the two dark layers of soft cookies.

Biting into one, the first impression I got was "Eh? The cookies run air is it?"

Ha ha ha... well.. it's supposed to be soft. I'm not a great food reviewer like lanatir or BabeKL but what can I say about this new dessert in town?

Okay la. But ~80cents a piece? Jialat loh.........

Wooot~!

It was some trip I had for the past 3 days. Of course, the main intention is to attend Mrs Mayat's convocation in UTM, Skudai but I'm glad to be able to meet up with a few good buddies over there in the southern part of Malaysia.

So on convocation day, me and Mrs Mayat woke up at blardy 5am. The reason why is because registration starts at 6:45am and there might be not enough car park that is within walking distance. Ugggh...

So after getting everything done, we waited at the designated area for Mrs Mayat's course which happens to be the front of the Student Affairs building (Bangunan H.E.P)

Being the typical Malaysians that we are, majority of the people came in late. A bunch of people arrived which includes the grandpas and grandmas, parents, siblings, friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc.

Only a few people belong to the 'husband' or 'wife' group :D Luckilly that day nobody asked me whether I'm Mrs Mayat's father. Ha ha ha ha... it happened before. Damn!

So after everybody packed themselves into the Dewan Sultan NasiKandar, the ceremony officially started.

On that session, I think roughly more than a thousand degrees were handed out by the Pro-Chansellor. Yikes... damn sien man. In addition to that, guests are not allowed to leave the hall until the ceremony is over.

I'm lucky enough to get a good seat where I can get some decent shots. Also, I think I saw someone familiar getting his degree as well.

Anyway, after everything is over. We headed for lunch and got some sleep. 5am!! jeeez....

Later that day, I took the taxi to Danga Bay to meet up with a friend. We ate the famous Laksa at Water Works and he brought me over to Taman Merdeka.

Ummm.... seriously nothing really interesting there but they do have their own Twelve Apostles though..

No idea what it is for.

In the evening, we met up with two more buddies and headed to a place known as Permas (or something like that I can't really remember the actual name) where the patrons get to eat nasi lemak on a platform on the sea. Ha ha.. quite cool.

The food is nothing to shout about but the experience is something really different. You can get to see Singapore while chewing your rendang daging :D Woa ha ha ha...

So, today I'm back home and Mrs finally saw her surprise present which I got for her... which happens to be that Yamaha P-70 digital piano. WOot woot....

Finally... tonight's the night I hop on the bus and head down to Skudai to attend my dearest Mrs Mayat's convocation.

Just had something spicy for dinner so I hope I don't have to ask Encik Driver to make emergency stop tonight for me to drop some brown babies by the pool. Woa ha ha ha...

Meanwhile, I'll be meeting up with a good friend there to talk about cameras and photography on Sunday lunch till evening.

We will be back from JB on Monday night. Wooo weee.... I'm on leave till next Tuesday so it's gonna be a great R&R week for me. So excited.

* YAWN * feeling damn sleepy now. I can't afford to sneak in a nap as I don't wanna stay awake throughout the whole journey to JB. Uggh... no please thank you very much.

Oh on a side note... the PM just announced 2007's budget. Hmmm... nothing much interesting though. I still don't have to pay income tax for this year :D

yaThis afternoon, sistermayat (Nicholas' mother) sms-ed me and mentioned that our parents are shopping for a new car. I was quite surprised and shocked because my parents are quite anti-buy-new-car one...

After all, father's Waja is still running fine what? Come on, tell me what car company makes cars that allow you to have the special feature of opening your door at the toll booth to pay? Or the built-in sound system and gets even better after you've gone through the famous Malaysian roads with the cheese pattern design? (Read: Holes)

ANYWAY...

We keep sms-ing each other and finally I found out that our parents were actually outside looking around AND planning to book one today.

Wahh.... shiok nyer.... one thing I know about my dad, he buys car with CASH $$$$ one. Yeah.. perks of a retired old man.
